Adding animals and pedigree setup

Two things to take note of. 1. Pedigrees are built based on choosing an animals parents from the database when you enter/edit that animal. So to make pedigree building automatic you should enter the oldest dogs in your pedigrees first. This allows the older animals to be in the database for selection as parents. 2. Images. To avoid issues with uploading and displaying images for your animals please ensure the following: 1. they are not too large (photos coming directly off camaras or scanners are much too large for web use. If you do not have the software to resize them there are many online sites for uploading and resizing your images prior to adding them to your animals. 2. Make sure the images are named properly. Spaces and special characters in the image name will cause problems with the upload and display. Additionally the image type suffix (jpg or gif) should be lower case. If you have issues with images displaying or uploading please check these items first before asking for support.

Adding Animals:

Select the Add Animals option (this will read "Add Dogs" if you entered dogs in your hosting signup, "Add Horses" if you entered horses, etc...). The fields on this screen are self explanatory.

  • Select whether or not this animal will appear in your pages (unchecked for animals being used for pedigree use only)
  • Select whether or not the animal will have it's own photo gallery (also unchecked for animals being used for pedigrees only)
  • Select whether or not the animal will be used in your pedigrees.
  • Select from the dropdown menu what primary category this animal will appear in. Leave this option to the default "pedigrees" if the animal is being used for pedigree building only.
  • Check any boxes for additional categorys you wish this animal to appear in (it is not necessary to check the box for the primary category that was previously selected)
  • Enter a Call name
  • Enter any titles appearing prior to the Animals Registered name (one title per box)
  • Enter the Animal's Registered name. Even if your animal is not registered, something must be entered here. If your animal is not registered use the call name again or some other descriptive text. This will appear at the top of that animals individual page.
  • Enter any titles that appear after the animals registered name (one title per box)
  • Date of Birth - can be left blank if unknown
  • Select Gender - this is very important for pedigrees to work correctly
  • Select Breeder from dropdown list - this shows the names of breeders you entered in the Utilities tab
  • Select Colors/Markings from dropdown list - this shows colors you entered in the Utilities tab
  • Select sire from dropdown list - This shows all of the male animals entered in your Database by registered name
  • Select dam from dropdown list - This shows all of the female animals entered in your Database by registered name
  • Click Browse and upload an image to be used as the primary image for this animal. If an animal is "edigree use only" this is the image that will appear in the photo pedigrees.
  • Click Browse and upload additional images for animals that will have a photo gallery. You may upload 4 additional images at a time and can add more by editing this animal after it is created.
  • Add description for this animal. This is the text that appears on this animals individual page. You can add as much text as you like

Click "Save this information" If you are uploading images in the process saving may take a couple of minutes. When done there will be a message at the top of the page saying that the information is saved. If you get an error while uploading this means that the permission are not set correctly on your image directory or that there is an issue with the image itself. You can contact support to have directory permissions corrected. Please check the image for correct naming and appropriate size.
