Setting up an FTP Client

An FTP Client is the software used to upload files and images to your site. Some we recommend are FileZilla, SmartFTP, AceFTP and CuteFTP among others. Many of them are free. There are dozens of different FTP clients available on the Internet. Although we can't provide instructions for each one, they are generally the same and the instructions that we provide should allow you to configure yours to be able to upload your site.

Download and install the ftp client of your choice. Then open it. You will see common windows in your client which show where files are located on your computer, a window for the files on the site you connect to and a window for your connection/transfer information.

There will also be boxes for you to sign in with. These include the site address, user name, password and port number. You received your ftp address, user name and password in your welcome email; enter these exactly as you received them. Leave the port number blank or at the default number shown. click the connect button and once connected you will see the following (using Filezilla - other clients will appear similar)

On the local host side (your computer) navigate to the location of the files you want to upload. On the Remote Host side navigate to the folder you want to put the files in. Filezilla and most other clients allow you to drag and drop from one side to the other. The software will show you the status of the upload.

Use this method to upload images for your photo galleries as well.
